“Cabildo” of the Cathedral of Seville
The Patio of the “Cabildo” of the Cathedral of Seville was designed by Hernán Ruiz II in 1562. This small and squared interior patio in enclosed by the walls that interconnect the “antecabildo” with the main sacristy and the chapter house or hall. All the interior’s detailed ornamentation and architectural elements were done in carved stones.
Gate to Forgiveness – Seville
This “Puerta del Perdón” or Gate (Gateway) to Forgiveness is considered to be the oldest that grants access to the Cathedral of Seville. This arch’s existence is first referenced in 1196 when the emir al-mu´minin, Abu Yusuf ordered the expansion of the Mosque’s layout.
Cathedral of Seville – Stained Glass Windows
The Cathedral of Seville is one in a handful of structures that has an ample amount of Stained Glass Windows. It houses a total of 81 stained glass windows with the oldest dating back to the XIII century. As a result, the stained glass windows of themselves constitute a museum within the Cathedral given their dimensions, architectural organization and the large amount of windows. The stained glass windows of the Cathedral of Seville were created mostly by foreign artist, with contributions from the main European Stained Glass centers. Saint John the Baptist Church in Écija, Seville
The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Écija, of the Province of Seville is the canonical seat of the Saint John’s Brotherhood, which on the morn of Good Friday hold their rites of penance. This is one of the city’s oldest religious building with reference to its existence dating back to the XVI century. Here we are Seville!
We arrived at Seville from Écija by car thanks to our friends Rafa and Elena. Arriving directly to the old quarters of the city and from the “Plaza Nueva” we sighted City Hall from where we began touring this great city. As customary, we first stopped to have a good cup of coffee and then head towards a nearby Tourism Office. This is always recommended as one can review the city map, they offer recommendations as well as indicate any changes in the daily schedule of events and visiting hours to different sites.
