The “Fontana della Civetta” or Fountain of the Owl is the work of Giovanni de Duca and is from the mid-16th century. Unlike other fountains in the Villa d’Este, the “Fontana della Civetta” seems to be more formal as it is on a separate terrace bordered by walls with niches. After visiting the “Basilica di Santa Chiara” in Assisi, Italy, and heading towards the “Piazza Comune”, we encountered the “Chiesa Nuova”, a modest temple built in 1615. Contemplating the Italian city of Bologna from the terraces of the “Basilica di San Petronio”, we observed a dome stood out among the buildings. The dome was a short distance from “Piazza Maggiore”, so we set out to find the building to which it belonged.
