The “Rosaleda” in the “Retiro” Park

Visiting “La Rosaleda del Parque del Retiro” in Madrid, Spain is an experience one should not miss. One will always find roses all year long, although it is during the months of May and June where they will be in all their splendor.

Cecilio Rodríguez, Jardinero Mayor de la Villa, was responsible for such beauty. He designed it in 1915 and it currently has more than 4,000 roses. On this site where one finds La Rosaleda, there used to be a greenhouse, donated by the Marquis of Salamanca. In the past there was a small pond, where one could skate when it was frozen in winter.

The white limestone fountains one finds create a very relaxing atmosphere.
