“Praça da República” or the Plaza of the Republic in Thomar, Portugal, is the main square of the city of the Knights Templar. The floor of the square is decorated with a mosaic in the shape of black and white diamonds.
It is located between the “Paços do Concelho” (Câmara Municipal or City Hall) and the “Igreja do São João Baptista”. Literally it is located at the foot of the mountain where the Templar Castle is located.
In the center of the square, a statue stands in honor of the founder of Thomar, the Templar Master Gualdim Pais.
The square is small and simple. There are benches to sit on and it is surrounded by different types of shops.
