The Market of Provisions of Santiago de Compostela in Corunna has become a great point of tourist interest, surpassed only by the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It has close to three centuries of history serving both the compostelanos, restaurants and bars in the city.
Just above the old city wall and the alongside the Rua das Ameas, between the San Felix de Solovio square and the Church of San Agustin, we find the venues dedicated to the sale of hundreds of products. From seafood, fish, meat, breads, cheeses, sausages, poultry, eggs, fruits, vegetables, salted cod, to flowers, all under one roof.
The current market place was built in 1941 with two purposes, to replace the old City Market, which collapsed in 1937 and to expand the capacity of the necessary posts to serve the city. The posts are distributed throughout five naves.
The Mercado de Abastos de Santiago has places to eat and even to enjoy a good glass of wine. Cheers!
