Mosque of the Christ of Light

The Mosque of the Christ of Light in Toledo is much like a precious gem, small but priceless. It is one of the most important monuments of Spanish and Moorish architecture in Spain. We found the following legend which might help explain why it is called the Christ of Light.

“The Legend attributes to horse of “El Cid”, upon the triumphant entry to Toledo by King Alfonso VI upon the re-conquest, the act of having knelt before the mosque and refusing to advance any further. as a sign of reverence to a Christ semi hidden by the wall was illuminated by a lamp and it had been kept hidden for centuries of the Moorish rule. A small white stone stuffed into the road marks the exact spot of the event.”
